About the Journal

Aims and Scope

Mission

The Journal of Molecular Therapeutics and Pharmacy (JMTP) is a peer-reviewed, fully open-access journal that publishes original research and authoritative reviews at the convergence of molecular biology, pharmacology, and computational science. JMTP advances the discovery, development, and translation of new therapies by bringing mechanistic biology, drug science, and data-driven discovery together in a single venue.

Vision

JMTP aims to become a high-impact reference journal for researchers who work at the interfaces of biology and medicine. The journal bridges the gap between fundamental molecular discoveries and their application in clinical or translational contexts. It gives equal weight to experimental rigor, computational depth, and therapeutic relevance.

Core Thematic Areas

  • Drug discovery, target identification, and target validation
  • Molecular and cellular pharmacology
  • Cancer biology and translational oncology
  • Immunology, immunotherapy, and immuno-oncology
  • Genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and multi-omics integration
  • Computational biology, bioinformatics, and AI in biomedicine
  • Nanomedicine, drug delivery, and biomaterial formulations
  • Pharmacogenomics and precision medicine
  • Translational and early clinical research
  • Systems biology and network pharmacology

What We Prioritize

JMTP gives priority to manuscripts that satisfy at least three of the following criteria:

  • Mechanistic novelty supported by multiple independent experimental approaches
  • Clear therapeutic or translational significance framed in the Introduction or Discussion
  • Methodological rigor including statistical power analysis, replication, and appropriate controls
  • Data transparency: raw data, code, and processed datasets deposited in recognized repositories
  • Computational and experimental integration within a single study
  • Diversity of model systems or cross-species validation supporting claims
  • Clinical or epidemiological evidence that corroborates mechanistic findings

What We Do Not Publish

JMTP does not publish descriptive studies that lack a mechanistic hypothesis, case reports without translational framing, studies with insufficient sample sizes or statistical power, manuscripts that replicate published findings without substantial conceptual advance, or review articles that summarize rather than critically synthesize existing literature.

Peer Review Model

JMTP uses single-blind peer review as the default. Authors may opt into transparent peer review, in which accepted reviewer comments and author responses are published alongside the final article. JMTP aims for a first editorial decision within 30 days of submission. Manuscripts that pass initial editorial screening are sent to a minimum of two independent reviewers.

Open Access & Article Processing Charges

All articles are published immediately upon acceptance under a Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license. The APC for 2025 is [amount to be finalized]. Fee waivers are available for corresponding authors from low- and lower-middle-income countries as classified by the World Bank. Waiver requests should accompany submission via the cover letter.

Peer Review

For Reviewers

JMTP depends on the expertise and judgment of its reviewer community. We value rigorous, constructive, and timely reviews that help authors improve their work. Below are the expectations and process for JMTP reviewers.

Review Process

  1. 1

    Invitation & Conflict Check

Reviewers receive an invitation email from the editorial management system. Before accepting, reviewers must confirm that they have no competing financial, professional, or personal interests with the authors or institutions listed on the manuscript.

  2. 2

Accept or Decline within 5 Days

Reviewers are expected to respond to invitations within five business days. If you are unable to review, please suggest two or three alternative experts in the field. JMTP maintains reviewer anonymity unless the reviewer opts into transparent peer review.

  3. 3

    Complete Review within 21 Days

The standard review period is 21 days from the date of manuscript access. Extensions of up to 7 days may be requested via the editorial portal. JMTP tracks reviewer performance and uses it to prioritize future invitations.

  4. 4

    Structured Report

Reviews should address: (a) significance and novelty of the findings; (b) rigor of experimental design and controls; (c) appropriateness of statistical methods; (d) clarity and completeness of the Methods section; and (e) data availability and reproducibility. Numbered comments are required. A summary paragraph intended for the authors is recommended.

  5. 5

    Confidentiality

Manuscripts under review are strictly confidential. Reviewers must not share, cite, or use any information from an unpublished manuscript without explicit written permission from the corresponding author. Reviewers must not upload manuscripts to any AI language model or cloud processing platform.

Recognition for Reviewers

JMTP acknowledges all reviewers annually in a published Reviewer Acknowledgment list. Reviewers who complete three or more reviews in a calendar year are eligible for a complimentary editorial board nomination and a certificate of appreciation. Reviewer performance data is shared with Publons/Web of Science Reviewer Recognition upon request.
